These announcements don’t prescribe a single technical approach. Instead, they normalize the idea that age assurance is a foundational layer — something you build into products from the start, not bolt on later.

A common reaction to regulatory pressure is to swing hard in the other direction: verify everyone, all the time, with the strongest possible checks.
That approach rarely holds up.
High-friction verification can protect against risk, but it also introduces new problems — user drop-off, privacy pushback, operational complexity, and, ironically, uneven enforcement when users find workarounds.
